Letter Y in Farsi is the last letter which takes the 32nd position in the Persian alphabet system. It is pronounced like ‘Y’ in English words such as ‘Yes’, ‘Yesterday’, and ‘Yellow’. Letter Y in Farsi words takes different shapes based on its position, including:

Letter Y in Farsi- یـ
This shape of the letter Y in Farsi alphabet looks like the letter B and the only difference between them is a dot. In other words, the letter Y has one more dot. To write this shape of the letter Y, put your pen above the base line and start drawing a straight downwards so that it sits on the line. Then keep moving your pen to the left side, stop please. It’s time to add two dots under it. It is the first shape of the letter Y that comes at the beginning and middle of the words. You can find it in the following words:
- دیروز which means yesterday
- یزد which is the name of a city in Iran
- شیر which means milk
- آشیانه which means nest
Letter Y in Farsi- ی
This shape of the letter Y comes at the end of the Persian words and takes the final and isolated positions. It can join the letter before it but never attaches to the letter after it. Above the base line draw a small curve by moving your pen from the right side so that it sits on the base line. Now, from this spot draw a larger semicircle to the left side so that it cuts the base line and moves upwards. You can find this shape of the letter Y in Farsi words such as:
- چای which means tea
- ایرانی which means Iranian
- آبی which means blue
- ماهی which means fish
